Book Design

For self-publishing authors, the book design service converts your digital manuscript into an attractive layout fit for presentation, giving your work that 'polished,' professional look.

The procedure for book design is as follows:

  • initial concept time allowing for multiple revisions to determine a suitable layout style for your book; proofing done via PDF files
  • complete design and layout of your entire manuscript using the final concept
  • review of the finished book via PDF, followed by one round (2 hrs) of revision work (to make minor changes to the content or design)
  • review of the revised book via PDF, plus any additional revisions as required (billed by the hour)
  • submission of your finished book files via CD or FTP to you and/or your print service provider for printing and publication

Cover Design

A striking and professional cover design is essential to the success of your book (since people do indeed judge books by them). The Designery offers full cover design services, including image sourcing or artwork creation if required.

The cover design procedure is as follows:

  • initial concept time to determine a suitable layout and/or artwork for your cover; proofing done via PDF files
  • production of your cover to completion using the initial concept design
  • review of the first cover proof via PDF, followed by one round (2 hrs) of revision to correct minor details or content
  • review of the revised cover via PDF, followed by any additional revision as needed (billed at the hourly rate)
  • submission of the final cover files to you and/or your print service provider via CD or FTP

Logo Design

Distinctive and memorable logos are a necessity for even the smallest of businesses. Let the Designery create a unique identity for you!

The logo design service is performed as follows:

  • initial concept time involving up to three rough concepts (normally hand-drawn) to determine the best look for your business
  • production of the final logo using one of the initial concepts
  • review of the first logo proof as an image file, followed by one round (2 hrs) of revision to make minor adjustments
  • review of the final proof of the logo, plus any further alterations as requested (billed at the hourly rate)
  • submission of the final logo files to you via CD or FTP

Brochure Design

An attractive and colourful brochure can be a great way to entice customers to purchase your products, or educate clients about you and your services, or provide people with important health, financial or other information.

The process of designing your brochure is as follows:

  • initial concept time to determine the best layout for your brochure
  • production of your complete brochure using the concept design
  • review of the first proof via PDF, followed by one round (2 hrs) of revision to make minor content and design adjustments
  • review of the final proof via PDF, plus any additional revisions as requested (billable at the hourly rate)
  • submission of your brochure files to you and/or your print service provider via CD or FTP

Website Design

Having a website is a great way for authors, individuals and businesses to promote themselves, their products, and their services to a wider audience. The Designery specialises in simple yet stunning website designs with basic CSS/HTML features to enhance your professional appearance.

Website design work is performed as follows:

  • initial concept time to draft a layout using Photoshop to create all necessary imagery, header/text styles, buttons, colours and patterns or textures required; review of the concept is done via an 'actual size' JPG file, and requested alterations made in the Photoshop file
  • production of the entire website (all pages, sub-pages etc) using the concept layout
  • upload of the site to a testing area on the Designery's online server space for review; one round (2 hrs) of revision permitted to make minor design and content revisions
  • review of the final, revised site, plus any additional alterations and page additions as needed (billable at the hourly rate)
  • upload of the files to your hosted webspace for official launch, and/or submission of all necessary files (including raw Photoshop files) to you via CD or FTP

Art and Illustration

The Designery specialises in fantasy, nature and scenic artwork, but can produce for a variety of genres in greyscale, black-and-white, monotone or full colour. Most colour work is done digitally using Photoshop and Painter, but in a painterly ('tradigital') style that recreates the more organic, natural feel of real media. Whether as illustrations for a book or cover, or for greeting cards and art prints, Digital Dragon Designery is sure to produce something to delight the eyes and stir the imagination!

Custom illustration and artwork is produced as follows:

  • initial concept development time with up to three rough sketch revisions to determine the overall composition and design of your artwork (additional concepts/revisions billed by the hour)
  • production of your artwork, with periodic updates on progress sent as JPG files for review (minor alterations can be suggested as work progresses to ensure it remains on target)
  • review of the final piece of artwork, plus any minor adjustments as needed (billed at the hourly rate)
  • submission of the final digital files or artwork original (as per the nature of the artwork and contractual agreement), to you via mail, CD or FTP, as appropriate

Transcription and Proofreading

A well-polished manuscript is essential to ensuring your audience respects and values your unique voice. The Designery offers basic copyediting/proofreading services, and can digitally enter your handwritten documents into a standard text document for easier revision and eventual layout.

These services are performed as follows:

  • review and quote based on a sample of your documents
  • transcription and/or proofreading tasks performed, and digital file sent to you for review
  • all transcriber errors corrected free of charge; any additional edits requested will be billed at the hourly rate

'Spec' Work

The Designery supports the right of all artists and designers everywhere to make a fair living wage at what they do. That is why spec work and free concepts are not honoured at the Designery, as work-without-pay is an unfair expectation to place on any business or service. For instance, would you think of asking your mechanic to work on your car for free to 'test-run' their work done on your vehicle before deciding if you'll pay them for it? If your answer is 'No, of course not,' then I ask that you please respect my need to make a profit when requesting concepts for your consideration.
