Every project receives a customized flat-rate estimate based on the size and complexity of the job, and includes conceptual development as well as one round of revision work (unless otherwise specified).

When you request a quote, please be sure to supply as many specific details as you can (see below) regarding your project in order to obtain the most accurate estimate possible.

If there is a service you desire that is not listed here, please email me with details of what you need.

Note: The current rate for hourly-based labour (revisions, etc) is $40/hr, and there is a minimum one-hour charge for revisions.

Book Design

Book design and layout costs are determined by a number of factors, including:

  • number of pages in final book, or the word count of the original manuscript and the intended book size
  • number of images to be scanned, altered and placed
  • number of complex formatting elements (tables, footnotes, endnotes, charts, etc.)
  • number of 'style' changes for body text, including headings, subheadings, blockquotes, special formatting (poetry, etc)

Cover Design

Cover design and layout costs are generally influenced by the following:

  • the need for graphics sourcing and research
  • whether full illustration is required

Logo designs are quoted based on:

  • degree of complexity
  • number of desired initial concepts

Website designs are complex and are generally quoted based on:

  • whether templates or completed pages are to be provided
  • the need for graphics outsourcing or design
  • the degree of linking, subheading and complex formatting

Illustration/Art

Illustration work is affected by the following:

  • degree of complexity desired
  • size of finished piece
  • whether it is full colour, monotone, or black-and-white
  • the requirement for digital or hand-rendered artwork (special supplies, etc are factored into the latter)

Transcription and Proofreading

Transcription from handwritten manuscripts and document proofreading is available for projects of any size.

The rates are as follows:

  • Transcription: $200/100 pages (based on typical double-spaced manuscript on US Letter size page)
  • Proofreading: $10/1000 words, or $0.01/word (minimum 10,000 word charge)

'Spec' Work

Please note I do not work for free, and will decline requests for so-called spec work or free sample concepts for your project to 'help decide which designer to use' (if you wish to see examples of my design style, please visit the Portfolio section).

All conceptual art and design is billed by the hourly rate (minimum 3 hr charge) for the following:

  • interior layouts and cover designs
  • logo concepts
  • art and illustration roughs
  • other by special request
